It is with great excitement and anticipation that we, THYME For GOAT are making CHEVON, (goat meat) available in the State of Maine.
We are a group of small family farms who have partnered together to assure the availability of a high quality, Maine raised product.
Our herds are raised in a natural enviroment exposing them to pasture feed, sunlight and shelter for inclement weather. They enjoy browsing, Maine hay crop, grain and garden grown veggie treats.
The herds consist of breeds that are primarily raised for meat production, offering delectable meat cuts for our customers. Chevon is 50-65% lower in fat but has a similar protein content to that of beef. The USDA reports that it contains 40% less saturated fat than skinless chicken. It is lower in cholesterol than venison and rabbit.
The health benefits of Chevon is becoming well known in the United States. Of course most of the world knew about it long ago,making goat the most consumed meat product world wide. In the past the goat meat made available to us was imported. Now, this wonderful home grown red meat is being raised on many farms right here in our home state.
